A photograph of the area known as Desmount Sanitarium. Desmount Sanitarium was located at the Cave Creek/Carefree border near the present site of the Horny Toad Restaurant. It was a haven for an unknown number of tubercular occupants. The colony was a 16 building encampment owned by Sam and Helen Jones. It operated from 1920 until 1929. Low occupancy brought about by the Great Depression forced the closure and subsequent sale. The buildings became housing for construction workers at the Horseshoe and Bartlett Dams from 1930 until 1938. Only one unit survived to be moved ultimately to the Museum grounds.
