The McClellan saddle was a riding saddle designed by George B. McClellan, a career Army officer in the US Army. Based on his observations of dividing the saddle tree in the center to lessen the impact on the horse's spine, the saddle was a long-lasting success and continued in use from its period of adoption until the US Army's last horse cavalry and horse artillery was dismantled in WWII. It continues to be used by ceremonial mounted units today.
